The pilgrims also will be celebrating the Maha Bharani festival with the Shraddha or the tharpanam which is done for the ancestors. The pilgrims will be doing pooja for the ancestors on the Maha Bharani day and this process is called as the Tharpanam or the Shraddha

There are many days for the pilgrims in the Tamilnadu state to do the pooja for their ancestors. The pilgrims will be doing pooja for the ancestors on all theses days and will be celebrating the festival for the people who have died. Mostly the pilgrims will be going to a river or else any temple and then will be doing the pooja. This is also done on the Maha Bharani date.

  • On Maha Bharani day, the head of the family will wakeup and take a head bath. Then the pilgrims will be leaving to the River or else the temple where the Maha Bharani is held. Then the pilgrims can hire the priest and purchase all the items for the Maha Bharani festival.
  • The family members will be making ready for the pooja at home. Once the tharpanam is completed, the pilgrims can return home and do the pooja in home. The pilgrims will be offering clothes to the ancestors on this day along with the details about the pooja.
