Abishan Jeevinth, who directed the hit Tourist Family, turns hero with With Love. It stars Malayalam actress Anaswara Rajan as the female lead, and Soundarya Rajinikanth is the producer. The youthful love drama released today in Tamil and Telugu. Here is how the film fares.
Story:
Set in Hyderabad, Satya Sheelan (Abishan Jeevinth) is a designer who keeps rejecting marriage proposals. His sister, frustrated with this, fixes a match without sharing the girl’s details and asks him to attend the meeting. He agrees and meets Monisha (Anaswara Rajan), a social media influencer. During their talk, Monisha realises that Satya was her senior in school. Their discussion slowly moves to their past relationships and school crushes. Monisha then suggests an idea to reconnect with people they once loved and get closure. What is her plan? How does it change their lives and equation? Do they end up together? The rest of the film explores these points.
Plus Points:
Love stories follow a familiar template. What makes a difference is how emotions are expressed. With Love uses a simple base plot, so expecting major novelty may not be ideal. However, the track involving meeting school crushes adds a fresh angle, and the director presents it in a reasonably engaging manner.
The concept could have been handled with heavier emotion, but the lighter treatment makes it more accessible. One-sided love stories often feel intense for those involved but appear different to others, and this contrast comes across in a relatable way.
The first half moves at a steady pace with friendship and flashback episodes. The second half shifts into drama. After a slightly slow start, the reunion portions and reflection moments bring in nostalgia and are staged neatly.
Abishan shows acting potential and handles a fun yet possessive character that may connect with younger viewers. Anaswara Rajan has a good screen presence and delivers a more consistent performance. Their scenes together work well. Kavya Anil leaves a noticeable impression despite limited screen time. The supporting cast performs as required.
Minus Points:
The story remains largely conventional, and though the treatment helps, the crush-reunion idea could have been explored with stronger emotional depth. The early portions of the second half feel slow before the narrative regains focus.
Abishan’s performance could have been more refined in emotional stretches. His scenes with Anaswara could have been written with more detail. Some viewers may find the overall plot familiar, though those with similar experiences may relate more.
The father and son relationship track could have been developed further, as the family conflicts are only briefly touched upon.
Technical Aspects:
Despite being his debut, Madhan delivers a fairly composed film. Choosing a relatable youthful subject works in the film’s favour. Shreyaas Krishna’s cinematography is clean and suitable for the tone. Suresh Kumar’s editing keeps the narrative reasonably tight. Sean Roldan provides suitable music and background score. Production values are adequate. The Telugu dialogues are properly written and supported by serviceable dubbing.
Verdict:
On the whole, With Love is a watchable youthful romantic drama with relatable and nostalgic elements. Abishan Jeevinth and Anaswara Rajan make a fine on-screen pair, with Anaswara delivering a lovely performance. The direction is steady, and the film stays entertaining for most parts despite familiar story beats and a slow patch in the second half. It works as a nice weekend watch for those who enjoy nostalgic romantic dramas.
