Awareness workshop on “World Day Against Trafficking in Persons” organized by ICC, UCAS, KRU

An awareness workshop on the occasion of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons was organized by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the University College of Arts & Science (UCAS), Krishna University on 30th July 2025. The awareness workshop aimed to sensitize students and faculty about the critical issue of human trafficking and the need for collective action to combat it.
Prof. K. Ramji, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Krishna University in his address, remarked that “Human trafficking is a global menace causing immense harm to society and humanity at large.” He urged the youth to take proactive steps in spreading awareness starting from the grassroots level, especially in rural and tribal communities.
Dr. Rayapati Sailaja, Chairperson, Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission, graced the workshop as the Chief Guest. In her speech, she emphasized that “Blind trust often leads to exploitation. A significant number of complaints received by the Commission pertain to trafficking cases.” She also noted that traffickers increasingly exploit social media platforms and cautioned the youth to stay vigilant. She encouraged students and faculty to report any suspected activities to the Women’s Commission for timely action by concerned authorities.
Smt. Suez Ravuri, Director of MAARPU Trust, attended as a Guest of Honour and highlighted that trafficking is rampant in tribal belts, where victims are most vulnerable due to lack of education and resources.
Mr. V.V. Naidu, Additional Superintendent of Police, Krishna District, also addressed the gathering as Guest of Honour, stating that “Minor girls are often targeted due to ignorance, and traffickers take advantage of their vulnerability.” He emphasized the importance of educational reforms and awareness at the school and college levels as key deterrents to trafficking.
The workshop was also addressed by Prof. M.V. Basaveswara Rao, Rector, and Prof. N. Usha, Registrar, Krishna University, who reiterated the university’s commitment to social awareness and student empowerment. The event witnessed active participation from faculty and students of all constituent colleges. Dr. M. Sravani, Member of ICC, Dr. P. Sujatha, and Dr. L. Suseela, Assistant Professors of Krishna University, played key roles in coordinating the event. Officials from the Women’s Commission, ICDS, and Police Department also attended, contributing their insights and support to the cause. The workshop concluded with a strong message: collective vigilance, education, and awareness are the most powerful tools in the fight against human trafficking.​
