Heatwave Alert: West Bengal Govt Prepones Vacation of State-Run Schools from April 22

School Summer Vacations 2024: In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions, the West Bengal government on Thursday preponed the summer vacation of state-run and aided schools from April 22, 2024. A notification issued by the School Education Department on Thursday said apart from pupils, the teaching and non-teaching staff of the schools will be on leave during the period but subject to the direction of election authorities concerned in view of ensuing Lok Sabha elections. “The schools of the hill areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts existing academic schedule may continue until further order,” reads the notice issued by School Education Secretary to the presidents of primary education and secondary boards.

“The teaching and non-teaching staff shall enjoy the leave as a special case during the period or till the schools reopens, subject to the directions issued by concerned Election Authorities in view of ensuing Parliament General Elections, 2024, and/or when required for fulfilment of activities and responsibilities for execution of various student’s welfare programmes of Government of West Bengal, and/or for any special direction issued by School Education Department, Government of West Bengal and/or West Bengal Board of Secondary Education,” reads the official notice.

Earlier in view of the ensuing elections and keeping in mind many schools in northern parts of Bengal have already been turned into camps of security forces as also booths, the summer vacation had been scheduled from May 6, news agency PTI reported.


Education minister Bratya Basu said private schools are also being requested to prepone the summer holiday in the interest of students. For more details, candidates can check the detailed notice by visiting the official website at .
