Krishna University commemorated the birth anniversary of Sri Pingali Venkayya in a grand manner on 2nd August 2025 at the Dr. YSR Administrative Building, Rudravaram campus. As a tribute to the visionary who designed the Indian National Flag, a floral garlanding ceremony was held at his portrait.
Prof. M.V. Basaveswara Rao, Rector of Krishna University, highlighted that Sri Pingali Venkayya, a proud son of Krishna District, played a pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle by designing the tricolour national flag, which was later adopted as the official flag of independent India.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. N. Usha, Registrar of Krishna University, emphasized the significant contributions of freedom fighters from Machilipatnam, including Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya, Pingali Venkayya, and Kopalle Hanumantha Rao, who played vital roles in India’s independence movement. She encouraged everyone to remember and honour their sacrifices.
As part of the celebrations, a large Indian National Flag was exhibited by the students and NSS volunteers of the University, adding patriotic fervour to the event. Dr. M. Sravani, NSS Coordinator, Dr. P. Gopi, Physical Instructor, KRUCET, constituent colleges NSS Programme Officers along with several Assistant Professors, non-teaching staff, actively participated in the programme.
