Supreme Court finds HC judgment prima facie well-reasoned; refuses to stay acquittal of GN Saibaba and others

Supreme Court: In a plea by Maharashtra Government seeking stay on orders of acquittal of Professor GN Saibaba and 5 others in a matter pertaining to offences under the (‘UAPA’) over allegations of Maoist links, the Division Bench of BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta, JJ. Prima facie found the judgment passed by the Bombay High Court to be well-reasoned. The Court refused to pass any urgent order to reverse such an order of acquittal.

The Court, while refusing to interfere with the acquittal order, also pointed out the fact that all 6 people had been acquitted twice by the different Benches of the High Court.
