On 22nd April, the Karnataka state government responded to recent protests by students, lecturers, and parents regarding “out-of-syllabus” questions in the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2024 by establishing subject-specific committees to investigate the matter. The government further announced that the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has extended the deadline until 27th April for students to submit their objections regarding the questions.

According to a statement issued by the higher education department, numerous complaints were received regarding several questions being outside the syllabus of CET. Many representations were made, highlighting that these questions affected the students and resulted in demands for grace marks or a re-conduct of the exam. The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has permitted students to raise objections to these questions until April 27. In response to these concerns, the government has formed subject-specific expert committees to assess the validity of the questions in relation to the CET syllabus. The press note released by the KEA regarding raising objections to questions can be accessed .

The KCET is held for admission into various professional courses such as engineering technology, Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Diploma in Pharmacy (DPharma), agriculture courses (farm science), and veterinary courses.
